Hello Miyuki
I’m sorry I have not replied earlier to your very helpful reply to my request. The good news is that I now know what those sake bottles mean and your help was invaluable.
You put me on the right track with your translations and after much Google work, I have found the answer: forty two years ago my friend and I were driven out of Tokyo to a restaurant for lunch and those bottles came from that restaurant. It still exists and is called
“Takaosan-Nanushi-Gonsuke” and it is located in Hachioji, one hour’s drive west of Tokyo. I must have bought or was given the bottles after our lunch which I remember was around the Irori and much sake was consumed.
Thank you very much for your help in this matter and thank you for organising our trip to Japan. We absolutely loved the country and its people and we will visit again with JTB.
Arigatou gozaimashita
